After several weeks of posts about my travels in a far off land I think it’s time for me to face reality and return to the streets of Amsterdam! And what better way to do that than with a fifth instalment in my ongoing (if infrequent!) ‘Amsterdam Cats in Windows’ series…

A long overdue 4th installment in my ongoing ‘cats in windows’ series. Oh, there’ve been some classic feline encounters in recent months… in particular “two cats and a disembodied hand wrestling”, where a single image just wouldn’t do.

And although in general this ‘series’ is supposed to be about cats and windows in Amsterdam this installment features some very special guests from farther afield: the wrestling cats and the disembodied hand reside in Leiden (it’s where disembodied hands go to retire), and there are two very handsome Brooklyn beasties as well!

While still very much glued to the evil triumvirate of keyboard, monitor and CPU in the pursuit of completing a couple of big design jobs, I have been gazing longingly at the little patch of sky beyond my studio window and have been capturing it’s changing face over the course of each day (one photo an hour for twelve hours).
It’s a great excuse to stand up, stretch, take in a deep breath of fresh sun-warmed air, and avert my eyes from the screen for a moment… and no matter what form the sky takes it’s always beautiful to look at.

But enough ‘goofing off’ – back to work for me! If everything goes according to plan (fingers crossed) by the end of this week deadlines will be reached, freelance jobs wrapped-up, and I will have a bit of time to work again on some of my own creative projects. Can’t wait :-)

Hurrah, the weekend is finally upon us! My mantra at the moment, while I dig my way out from underneath the big ol’ pile of work I’ve taken on, has been the “please send me evenings and weekends” lyric from Gang of Four’s classic ‘Return the Gift’. And so in celebration of the weekend having been delivered here’s a long overdue ‘Part III’ in my informal, ongoing series of ‘Amsterdam cats in windows (or doorways, or near windows, or out and about on the city streets)’ (Part I can be found here, and Part II here).

While sorting through and archiving (a fancy word for ‘burning to CD and then deleting’) the gazillion-and-one photos on my harddrive I’ve been enjoying coming across these pictures, and discovering an inadvertent collection of rusty things… the warm russety browns and oranges (not to mention the subtle, unexpected purples, blues and greens) serve as a wonderful counterpoint to the cool blues & greys of this persistent winter.

I wasn’t aware that I had such a predilection for rust… but the growing photo collection says unequivocally that I do!

Hmmm, beautiful rusty things… and today the sun is shining here in Amsterdam. Although I have too much work to get through to be able to get out there and enjoy it, just knowing it’s there is cause for celebration. Happy midweek to you whatever you’re up to!

*Apologies if the title mislead you to expect a post concerning Chris Ware’s socially-challenged superhero-action-figure-collecting manchild… maybe some other time.
