After several weeks of posts about my travels in a far off land I think it’s time for me to face reality and return to the streets of Amsterdam! And what better way to do that than with a fifth instalment in my ongoing (if infrequent!) ‘Amsterdam Cats in Windows’ series…

Spring (must surely be!) in the air, if the friskiness that’s been ensuing outside my window recently is anything to go by. (The below image is an animated GIF – it might take a moment or two to load properly).

I like the transitional, almost-but-not-quite spring colour palettes provided by these two charming couples…

Ha! Just as I moved my mouse to click on the ‘Publish’ button it started snowing again here (first time since Christmas)! I hope no one has laid any eggs…

from the MoMA‘s ‘B Movie Posters’ postcard collection: ‘Not of this Earth’ 1957 dir. Roger Corman, ‘Mothra’ 1961 dir. Ishiro Honda, ‘Tarantula’ 1955 dir. Jack Arnold, ‘Attack of the Crab Monsters’ 1957 dir. Roger Corman

In the spirit of the day, here’s a scar(il)y lo-fi monster movie for your viewing pleasure.

The woodpigeon that regularly hangs out on the railing of the tiny roof terrace outside my studio window seems to have found him(her?)self a friend…

One last post before battening down the hatches for a much needed long-weekend…

Amsterdam can be a very picturesque city all year round, but I find it at its most beautiful in the winter. It’s all icy reflections, filigree branches and shimmering lights, and seems somehow enchanted and unreal…

Another enchanted thing I encountered recently (via Loobylu) is the short animated film ‘Alma’. It’s a beautiful (and also perfectly creepy) piece of animation and is apparently only available to view online over a limited time this Christmas… click here now not to miss it!

Whatever, and however, you’re celebrating this long-weekend I hope you have a peaceful, happy (and hopefully a little bit enchanted) time.
