Last Sunday we made the ±hour and a half train journey from Amsterdam to Nijmegen, nestled close to the German border, for our first (of, hopefully, many!) gig of the year – Scout Niblett at Extrapool.
The winter sun was shining and with time on our hands before the gig we did a bit of exploring of this new-to-us ancient town (first settled by the Romans over 2000 years ago). There were plenty of good discoveries to be made…

atmospheric ruins

golden light

the hard-working (even on a Sunday) River Waal

black swans, and other plumply perfect feathered friends

trails through the blue

elegant spires, onion-topped towers
(and ducks flying in pleasingly wonky formation)

feisty felines… definitely masters of their domains

winged watchers

a giant bunny balancing a bright red ball on his nose (highlight!)
["Uitkijkkonijn" by Florentijn Hofman]

and Scout…
despite having a nasty cold and feeling very lousy for it, had us all captivated with another goose-bump inducing performance of raw emotional power.

Nice, feels like I made the walk with you!
So no picture where your head comes out of the rabbits eye (as it is a ‘uitkijktoren’ :)?
I think the festival De Affaire is in same spot in summer near the Waal as well, never been but must be nice…

The uitkijkkonijn was closed so, sadly, no opportunity to climb inside and peer through his eyes! I would’ve liked to have seen what he sees :)
It must be a pretty magical spot in the summertime…

hey getting around! either work is easing up or you’ve sensibly decided you need an active antidote! the wabbit would have been the highlight for me too….a little like that hanger gorilla at the v&a, no? as for the music….there’s a shakespeare quote about that. (“play on”!)
i did a little “wall” occupying today – more on that soon!

Hello! Nah, work hasn’t eased up… but one must always heed the call of the music :)
Wasn’t the coat hanger gorilla great! And that AWESOME life-sized crocheted bear by Shauna Richardson!
Looking forward to seeing the results of your ‘wall occupying’…
