I’m unable to credit the makers of much of the graffiti above, apart from the creator of the black & white creatures (the fish [tail only shown here], squirrel, hare & two birds suspended) – they’re made by Belgian artist ROA, who has been covering the world with his darkly poignant menagerie, all beautifully rendered at an epic scale (the photos above don’t do these pieces justice at all… they really need to be seen ‘in the flesh’ to be fully appreciated!).
(Thanks R, for the Zaragoza graf tour! :)

great photos as always suzanne! i feel v. ambivalent about graffiti. i think there will only be more as we go on in time. but like all art, some is better than others. i do love how it animates our exterior spaces but there’s also a strong been-there-done-that reaction that i have to it. probably lived in nyc for too long! xoxo

Those are just amazing. Great photos. Although, I wouldn’t want one of those giant animals on a building I lived in.:)

Wow! Looking at these masterpieces makes me think people in North America just pour paint on the walls and call it art. In Zaragosa they actually draw! Art is not necessarily good drawing. European standard is so high. Thx for sharing!

I’m glad you were able to identify ROA, because his were my favorites. :) I love the birds and the hare in particular. Amazing, amazing stuff. I can’t imagine doing a drawing that intricate on that kind of scale. Great pics, thanks for sharing them!

Great pictures. I am absolutely fascinated with graffiti. I especially love it when it utilizes the surrounding like the cat and two hanging birds. I must say though, for some reason, and I’m not sure why, my favorite one is the little cockroach.
Great post!

Wonderful snapshot of what the street art is like in Zaragoza… I’ve never been there, but when I’m passing through in the future I’ll remember to notice this part of the cityscape. What were you up to in Zaragoza?
